Understanding Paint Coverage in India
The biggest mistake in painting calculation is assuming all paints cover the same area. The coverage differs greatly based on the paint quality, the surface texture, and how much it is thinned.
Standard coverage rates for typical interior paints in India (per coat):
- Standard Emulsion (e.g. Tractor Emulsion): 130 - 150 sqft per liter
- Premium Emulsion (e.g. Royale): 140 - 180 sqft per liter
- Primer (Water-based): 120 - 140 sqft per liter
Remember that a fresh, unpainted plastered wall (even with putty) will absorb more paint on the first coat than a previously painted wall. Always calculate for at least two coats of paint over one coat of primer for a professional finish.
