How Many Watts Do You Need?
A common mistake in Indian homes is over-lighting false ceilings with too many downlights, or under-lighting task areas. A general rule of thumb for LED lighting is:
- Living Rooms & Bedrooms: 1-1.5 Watts of LED lighting per square foot.
- Kitchen & Bathrooms (Task areas): 2-2.5 Watts of LED lighting per square foot.
For a 150 sqft bedroom, you need roughly 150-225 Watts total. This could be achieved with six 15W downlights, or four downlights and a length of LED strip for ambient cove lighting.
