The Power of a Professional Interior BOQ
In the Indian interior design industry, the difference between winning a ₹5 Lakh project and a ₹25 Lakh project is transparency. High-value clients do not trust "rough estimates." They demand a highly structured Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
1. What Makes a Good BOQ?
A professional BOQ leaves no room for ambiguity. Every single line item must have five core columns:
2. Common Measurement Units in India
Understanding how different works are measured is critical to defending your BOQ to a client:
- Woodwork (Wardrobes, TV Units): Measured in Sqft (Height × Width).
- Kitchen Cabinets: Measured in Rft (Running Feet along the length of the granite slab).
- False Ceiling & Flooring: Measured in Sqft (Floor/Ceiling area).
- Electricals: Measured in Nos (Number of points/switchboards).
- Deep Cleaning / Debris Removal: Usually quoted as a Lumpsum.
3. Handling Variable Scopes of Work
Civil works, like breaking tiles and laying new plumbing lines, are notorious for unpredictable quantities. Always mention "Provisional Quantity - Subject to Site Measurement" for civil line items. Once the demolition is done, measure the exact square footage and generate an updated BOQ.
