The Golden Rule of Furniture Density
A common mistake in Indian apartments is buying oversized, bulky sofas that leave no room to walk. A well-designed room relies heavily on "negative space" (the empty area where you walk).
The industry standard for furniture density in a residential space is:
- Ideal (30-40%): Feels spacious, luxurious, and easy to navigate.
- Acceptable (40-60%): Cosy and functional, but bordering on full. Requires careful placement.
- Overcrowded (60%+): Will feel like a furniture showroom, causing bumped knees and restricted movement.
Remember to always leave at least 18 inches between a sofa and a coffee table, and 30-36 inches for major walkways and doorways.
